Every child has the right to an education

“Education is the closest thing to magic in the world. Nothing can transform a person’s life the way education can. It instills confidence and gifts people with a voice.”

Nivasini, high school student from India.

Founded in 1946, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) exists to protect the rights of children around the world, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities so that they can reach their full potential.

Reaching children in over 150 countries

UNICEF is active in more than 150 countries across the globe, working with local communities, organisations and governments to make a long-lasting difference to the lives of children everywhere.

Education for all

UNICEF believes that education is a human right: Every girl and boy in every country should receive one. Unfortunately, millions of children around the world are not getting an education due to conflict, poverty, gender inequalities, and unsafe journeys to and from school.

To change this, UNICEF provides development and support, promotes educational quality and helps countries prepare for and respond to crises, so that affected children can learn in a safe, stable and gender-sensitive environment.
